Yellow Adds Flavor to an All-Black Season April
7, 2005 – Looking for Col. Mustard? You won't
find him with a candlestick in the library; he was busy
on the runways, where yellow stood in bright contrast
to the somber, predominant palette of black. It was
no surprise to see color at Versace, in the form of
leg-loving pants, but it even made a splash at Prada,
glowing fiercely out from under a dark wallpaper print.
Chez Calvin Klein, where minimalism—in line and
hue—is expected, Francisco Costa showed luminous
taffeta coats and dresses in ochre and luxe alligator
accessories in a lemony tone familiar to those who take
their drinks with a twist. Marc Jacobs chose amber moiré
for a voluminous dress in his eponymous line, while
at Marc by Marc Jacobs the models wore suede boots in
a shade that can only be described as Gulden's mustard.
Meanwhile, at Monique Lhuillier: "I was inspired
by the jewels of the maharaja," the designer said.
"The curry shade, especially, is so bold and exotic."
