Prepare. Wash with
a volumizing shampoo for fine hair or a moisturizing
formula for medium to thick tresses. Follow with a lightweight
conditioner. After rinsing and blotting with a towel,
spritz on a light setting spray until hair is saturated,
and distribute evenly with a wide-tooth comb. Make a
center part, and scrunch the ends with your hands while
hair air-dries. Or blow-dry with a diffuser.
Make waves. When the hair is completely dry, divide
it into eight to ten sections. Hold a large-barrel curling
iron vertically, and beginning at the back of the head,
wrap one section around the barrel from ear level to
the ends. Hold for five to ten seconds, then release.
Before hair cools, gently tug on the spiral to loosen
it. Repeat until all hair is lightly waved.
Tousle. Run your fingers in a gentle zigzagging motion
from the scalp to the ends to give waves a sexy, tousled
look. To subdue split ends or frizz on fine hair, rub
a dime-size blob of lightweight styling cream between
your palms, and smooth onto the ends sparingly. Those
with medium to thick hair can try a few drops of shine
serum instead. Finish with a mist of flexible-hold hair
spray.
